Our Story is Your Story.

Dear Friend,

You are the center of the FACES story, part of our community, and we are so grateful that you care so deeply about our mission.  We provide support, education and resources for our families that care everyday for their loved one with a mental health diagnosis. Your generosity allows us to move forward each year with positive and impactful programs that benefit these families.  When a parent tells us at    support group that they no longer feel alone because they have found people who care and understand their challenges.  Your support allows that uplifting moment to happen.  We are asking you for more of these inspiring moments. Please help us continue our work by donating what you can so we may continue to stand by these parents and families.

Here are some of the programs and community efforts that your donations make possible.

FACES offers a twice a month support group.  Our second support group features an informative topic discussion that is facilitated by two of FACES’ Board members.   They use their lived experiences to guide our support group participants in an interactive discussion on topics such as Hope and Recovery,  Communication – Asking the Hard Questions, Stress and Caregiving.  FACES also holds ten community education meetings a year, inviting experts to talk about every aspect of caring for someone with a mental illness.

FACES participates in the training for the Chesterfield County Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program.  CIT is a 40 hour training with the goal of positive outcomes for the person in crisis, their families, and law enforcement.  FACES is also involved in the training for new police recruits.

FACES is a co-founding member of the Chesterfield Suicide Awareness and Prevention Coalition.  The Coalition is composed of local and nationwide organizations. We are dedicated to educating the public about the risk factors and preventative measures that can be taken to help a loved one in crisis and prevent a suicide.  As a member of the Coalition, FACES is instrumental in creating a well received presentation called Raise Your Voice About Suicide Prevention.  We drafted a Resolution to have September recognized as Suicide Prevention Month in Chesterfield County.  This Resolution has been approved by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors.  In 2020, FACES and the Coalition focused on a state-wide program called Lock and Talk Virginia.  This program encourages the responsible storage of medications, guns and other lethal means.  We also successfully spoke with gun shop owners and pharmacies, asking them to post flyers about these safety measures. In 2021, FACES and the Coalition launched a Resilient Chesterfield campaign.  This program highlighted the stories of strength, growth and well being of Chesterfield residents and businesses and listed resources for those in need of help.  In 2022 the Coalition focused on the new nationwide 988 crisis number and on children’s mental health.

FACES is involved in many other meaningful projects.  We are so proud to have you with us to make a difference in people’s lives. Please consider making a generous donation to FACES. All donations are welcome and are meaningful to us.
