A US DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE REPORT ON MENTAL ILLNESS IN JAIL POPULATIONS
November 2007
The US Department of Justice reports that approximately 16% of our current prison or jail population has a mental illness. Seventy-five percent of these inmates diagnosed with a mental illness also have a co-occurring substance abuse problem.
If you, or someone you love, have a problem with alcohol, there is help available.
Alcoholism is a treatable medical disease. Please speak with your physician, a licensed clinician, or your Mental Health Support Services about possible treatment options.
